Tooth Fairy
My youngest of three, Ivy, who is six years old.
It's the last of the "firsts of her childhood" really...
The end of a chapter in my life, where when I look back,
it's hard for my husband and I to remember even the most special moments in her life.
It's been a whirlwind.
Ivy has been our most (I need a really nice word) "challenging" child.
She screamed for the first 7 months of life and
literally sucked the life out of us that first year.
At 18 months, she would try to escape out the front door,
or run away from me everywhere we went.
or run away from me everywhere we went.
At 2, she Sharpied my whole kitchen,
(this is happening while we are installing a double lock on the front door so she can't escape)
(this is happening while we are installing a double lock on the front door so she can't escape)
and the day before her kindergarten pictures, she cut her own bangs.
She at times has pushed me to the brink of insanity.
She has a volume level most children will never reach, and never stops moving.
But, because of the Grace of God, thankfully, she is mine.
And most say, my "mini me".
She is funnier than anyone in our family.
Loves everything and everyone deeply.
And she is beautiful.
But best of all...
She loves magic.
When you tell her a story, her eyes light up, and you can feel her breathing it all in.
When all her little friends started losing their teeth this year,
the talk of the Tooth Fairy began.
Michaela and I of course began talking about the
special kind of magic we could make for her.

special kind of magic we could make for her.
Here are some ways to bring "Tooth Fairy Whimsy" into your little one's life!
Introduction Letter
We wrote a letter that is yours to print for free for the first time
the Tooth Fairy comes to visit.
the Tooth Fairy comes to visit.
It's a 5 x 7 size and written tiny...just like she would do it.
It's so sweet and magical, we want every mom to have it.

Sprinkle dust from the Tooth Fairy's point of entry,
all the way to the place where she took the tooth.
all the way to the place where she took the tooth.
Glitter works great but "Extra Fine" glitter looks more like fairy dust.
We love the iridescent color this glitter had.
Tooth Fairy Pillow
We promise you this is easy to make.
The pocket is the mouth...cuteness doesn't even cover it.
We found these adorable tooth fairy pillows on mmmcrafts and wondered
if we could make them with our limited sewing skills.
"Limited" is an understatement.
So, we are happy to report that with one needle, some embroidery thread, and everyone's favorite...a glue gun, you are in business.
Here is what you need:
- 2 sheets of white felt and 1 sheet of pink felt
- batting (filler)
- pipe cleaners (we liked these iridescent ones)
- ribbon for holder
- buttons for eyes
- embroidery thread (white and black)
- pattern from mmmcrafts
Unless you plan on using a sewing machine,
do not follow the instructions on the pattern.
(unless you sew...then have at it!)
do not follow the instructions on the pattern.
(unless you sew...then have at it!)
You'll want to follow the tutorial here.
Her pattern for cutting was perfection, so we didn't even want to attempt our own.
First, print out two copies of the pattern on cardstock and cut out the tooth from one page and the pocket, cheeks, and teeth from the other.
Then, pin the pattern to the white felt and cut out
the tooth shape on both pieces of white felt, the small teeth with the leftover white, and the pocket and cheeks with the pink felt.
You should have all these pieces.
Cut a slit with an exacto blade on the pattern, then lay it over one tooth felt piece and cut a slit into the felt.
Hot glue the pink pocket over the slit, make sure it's centered.
When you turn it over, you'll have a mouth!
Glue on the teeth and cheeks, and mark where you want the eyes, then sew them on.
This is where you can use black embroidery thread and add eyebrows if you want.
Take the other felt piece and cut a line in the back 3 inches long.
Cut a 16 inch piece of ribbon and place the ends inside both pieces of felt put together.
Start sewing around the edges until you've gone all the way around.
Flip the pillow over and begin stuffing the batting into the slit you made in the back. After it's full to the point where you like it, stitch the back together.
It's not perfect, but your kid is going to think you are FANTASTIC...they aren't looking at your sewing skills!
Now take a pipe cleaner, make a loop and sew the ends onto the pillow.
Do this four times to make the wings,
continuing to wrap the thread around all of them to secure.
Guess what?
You did it!
Here's the finished product...a girl and a boy version.
Tooth Fairy Door
Here's what you'll need:
We saw a few of these on Etsy and Pinterest
and knew it had to be part of this blog post.
Besides the fact, I knew Ivy would LOVE having one of these.
and knew it had to be part of this blog post.
Besides the fact, I knew Ivy would LOVE having one of these.
How easy would it be for the Tooth Fairy to get in your room
if she had her own special door?
if she had her own special door?
And, yes it was REALLY EASY to make!
- A dollhouse door (either single or double, and available at most hobby stores or you can find them online.)
- Choice of color of paint
- small paint brushes
- doorknob, hinges, numbers, whatever you want to make it special
Paint the doors the colors you want.
Ivy gets to benefit so we painted it pink to match her room.
We attached the doorknobs with just a glue gun.
Now what to put on the door?
I got a Silhouette Cameo for Christmas and have been dying to use it.
It cuts any shape, any font, on card stock, vinyl, fabric...it's amazing.
I typed out the word Believe and used magenta vinyl.
Here it is finished on her wall.
We think any Tooth Fairy would gladly and whimsically come through that door!

As this chapter of my life of "childhood firsts" starts to close,
I'm living in the present...breathing it all in just like my Ivy does.
Ivy, may your love for magic never end.

DeleteI have a younger sister who had similar issues. She cut her own hair, drew on everything and had a temper. Now that she is in her twenties, she wishes that she would have been steered towards a positive artistic outlet at an early age. Mayeb enroll her in a magic class or have her take an art class. It's important for them to have a positive outlet for emotions. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree Katy! We try to give her lots of outlets! Thank you for reading!
DeleteThis is by far the cutest post I have ever seen on the tooth fairy. I will have to remember to book mark this for future reference. Thank you so much for sharing this special time with us.
